How did Hale's Marine get to be the top Boat Transport company
in the Southwest United States?
It was a lot of hard work, really, and a passion for helping
people. Ed Hale's service in the Coast Guard instilled these ideals
in him and he brought them into the marine service business.
We might as well start at the beginning.
The Beginning
Ed Hale's marine transporting service began in an innocent way.
Ed wanted to fill a gap left open by other transporters who were
sometimes unreliable.
He had become frustrated when he would make an appointment to work on a customer’s boat and,
when he arrived at the job, find the
transporter/hauler hadn’t pulled the boat out of the water at the
specified time.
He also overheard his customers complain about unsatisfactory or
inadequate
vessel transportation from one lake to another in Arizona.
Ed went into action.
So Ed jumped into the business of hauling out and transporting boats. He purchased a
truck and an aluminum trailer, and began hauling boats in the thirty-four-foot, 15,000-pound
range.
Eventually he acquired another aluminum trailer so one trailer
could be in use while the boat on it was being serviced, and another
boat could be hauled for service or moved from one lake to another.
Ed was always thinking ahead that way.
But was Ed satisfied?
No, Ed was not satisfied. As time went on, a Ford F350 "dually" joined the fleet and
Ed coupled it to a newly-acquired 51-foot, gooseneck trailer for
carrying multiple boats among the various Southwestern Region Marine
Max stores.
This allowed him to haul yachts from Arizona to various points in
California and the Northwest.
Once the passion for moving boats got into Ed's bloodstream, there was no
stopping the lad.
He purchased a Freightliner FL70 for even more power so he could
complete longer hauls and handle larger and heavier yachts.
Equipped
with a pintle hitch, various ball-hitch sizes and a fifth wheel
plate (with air or electric brake connections), this baby has seen its
share of service.
But there was more...
Ed wasn't done yet. Soon a new Con-O-Lift hydraulic trailer joined Hale's
Marine Services and its advanced design put less stress on a boat’s hull during retrieve,
transport and launch.
It was recently used to move a SeaRay 440 from
the Marine Max store in Tempe, to its new berth at Lake Pleasant.
And more...
Hale's new houseboat trailer, based at Lake Pleasant, now is able
to handle
houseboats with lengths of up to eighty feet.
And more...
Ed's Kenworth T600 with sleeper cab, coupled to the 53 foot
over-the-road, low-boy trailer joined the moving fleet and gives Hale's Marine
a longer range and
increased capabilities.
