We've got a "go to" repair guy at Hale's Marine. If you want
something that's difficult to fix, you'll want to find Jon. Jon is responsible for the majority of
diagnostics and repairs on the major problems here.
He's at the top of the heap at finding leaks in outdrives but he
doesn't stop there.
Jon is an expert at resealing, spotting worn or burned gears and
rebuilding outdrive units.
He's definitely the guy.
Jon is also great at rebuilding carburetors that have gotten
corroded and plugged internally. (We're running out of superlatives
here.)
Ever had to pull a motor and transom plate to seal a leak that
that was about to sink your boat? Jon's the guy for that job.
Jon is efficient and particular (note we didn't say, "peculiar")
and he's always "Johnny on the Spot" when there's work to do.
When he looks at a repair job, he’ll give you a fair estimate. He
might say, "This is
easier than Book Time," and bid it lower.
Or he might say the opposite if the opposite happens to be the
case. Bad news never gets better with age, you know.
Custom wiring is another element of Jon's wide-ranging expertise.
Jon prefers to solder joints, and seal them with shrink tubing.
This ensures the connections won’t get wet and corrode later on. It
might take longer than crimping on a Scotch-lock or putting on a butt-connector but it’s a better value for
you, the
boat owner.
Jon also helps out the other guys in the yard and offers his
wisdom to them. We like to let him think he's a supervisor. He is
super (we haven't used that word to describe him yet).
Jon admits to being "Thirty-Something," but is as young-minded and
aggressive as a much younger man. (Although Rick wonders how much
younger could you possibly be than thirty.)
Outside of work, Jon's passion is NASCAR so bring on your high
performance boats.
We're not sure yet, but we think Jon is a work-a-holic.
Twelve-hour days really turn him on and he doesn't seem to be able
to relax until a job is done.
We're lucky to have Jon here at Hale's Marine but please don't tell
him we said that.We might have to give him a raise.
